There are many ways to find the age or grade level of a children’s book:

  1. The easiest way to find the age or grade level for a children’s book is to look at the back of the book. If it isn’t there, look at the inside of the back cover and the front cover. Sometimes, the age level is also on the page opposite of the title page.

  2. In addition, three research databases will list the age and grade levels for children’s books: Novelist Plus K-8, Novelist Plus (for grades 9+), and Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database.
